Bulk liquid transportation is riskier than other modes of transportation, especially when hazardous chemicals are involved. When moving liquid products through a supply chain, liquid logistics is a specialized material handling and transportation discipline.
Liquids, unlike discrete unit products that can be transported using standard methods, require special handling because liquids have no fixed dimensions; they can be shipped in a variety of container sizes and shapes. One of the best and most effective ways to transport liquid solutions is with the help of trailer engineering.
What is Trailer Engineering?
Trailer Engineering is a system created to assist small and medium-sized trailer manufacturers and importers in demonstrating compliance with ADRs. The Trailer Type Approval system will assist you in identifying ADRs that apply to your specific trailers and provide a system for collecting and storing evidence of compliance.
A transport tank trailer with a tank that can be used to transport, store, load, and unload a viscous product, such as a viscous liquid product or a liquid with solid(s) in suspension, more completely and effectively.
Food-grade and non-food-grade materials are used for transport, storage, loading, and unloading. Chocolate, paint, waste, and asphalt are examples of excellent products. The tank system includes
- agitation devices (e.g., vibration devices) to force the viscous product to flow during unloading;
- a heat-traced closed-loop venting and unloading system that eliminates the need for the tanker’s utility hole to be opened, resulting in the release of heat; and
- the use of enhanced insulating materials to reduce product solidification during product discharge
- the elimination of thermal bridges in order to improve product heat retention.
An inventive cargo tank shape is also included, which promotes viscous product discharge during tank unloading. The viscous product trailer may also have a heated make-up air system with the tank housing. The system can supply heated air and heat vented air into a tank containing viscous product to keep the tank, and thus the product, at a constant temperature.
The type of equipment used greatly impacts whether a bulk liquid transport succeeds or fails.
What is Bulk Liquid, exactly?
Bulk liquid, also known as liquid bulk cargo, is a liquid that is transported in large quantities in tanks on ships, cargo planes, or truck trailers. These liquids must be transported on carrier vessels with the necessary equipment to safely load and unload them and keep them pure during transit.
The transport of bulk liquids could be a hassle without the right trailer engineering and using the wrong equipment could lead to excessive loss. But the challenge is transporting your bulk liquids with all the right equipment to maintain product quality and safety without spending a fortune. CSA Engineering has a solution to this.
